The Palio di Siena is a historic horse race held twice a year in the city of Siena, Italy. It takes place on July 2 and August 16, featuring ten horses and riders representing different neighborhoods, known as contrade. The race is run in the Piazza del Campo, a large public square, and attracts thousands of spectators.
The event has roots dating back to the medieval period and is steeped in tradition. Each contrada competes fiercely for glory, and the winning contrada receives a painted banner, called the Palio. The race is not just about speed; it embodies the spirit and pride of the local community.
