Palestinian Legislative Council
The Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) is the legislative body of the Palestinian Authority, responsible for enacting laws and overseeing the government. Established in 1996, it was formed following the Oslo Accords, which aimed to create a framework for Palestinian self-governance. The council consists of members elected by the Palestinian people, representing various political parties.
The PLC's functions include debating and approving legislation, as well as monitoring the executive branch. However, its effectiveness has been challenged due to political divisions, particularly between Fatah and Hamas, and the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has affected governance and elections.
