PIM Dense Mode
PIM Dense Mode (Protocol Independent Multicast Dense Mode) is a multicast routing protocol used in networks where multicast group members are densely located. In this mode, the protocol initially floods multicast traffic to all network segments, assuming that most hosts want to receive the data. If there are segments without interested receivers, PIM prunes those segments to optimize bandwidth usage.
When a new receiver joins the multicast group, PIM Dense Mode quickly re-establishes the multicast traffic to that segment. This approach is efficient for scenarios with many receivers, as it simplifies the routing process and reduces the need for complex management of multicast group memberships.
