Oximes
Oximes are organic compounds that contain a functional group characterized by a nitrogen atom double-bonded to an oxygen atom and single-bonded to a carbon atom. They are typically formed by the reaction of aldehydes or ketones with hydroxylamine. Oximes are important in organic chemistry and are often used as intermediates in the synthesis of various pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.
In addition to their synthetic applications, oximes can also serve as useful reagents in analytical chemistry. They can be converted into other functional groups through various chemical reactions, making them versatile in the development of new compounds. Their ability to form stable complexes with metal ions is also of interest in coordination chemistry.
