Overmountain Men
The "Overmountain Men" were a group of American frontiersmen who played a significant role during the American Revolutionary War. They lived in the Appalachian Mountains, primarily in what is now Tennessee and North Carolina. These men were known for their rugged independence and skills in hunting and warfare, which they used to defend their settlements against British loyalists and Native American tribes.
In 1780, the Overmountain Men famously gathered to confront British forces at the Battle of Kings Mountain. This battle was a turning point in the Southern campaign of the Revolutionary War, showcasing the effectiveness of local militias and contributing to the eventual American victory.
