Ottoman Reform Era
The Ottoman Reform Era, also known as the Tanzimat, spanned from the early 19th century to the late 19th century. It aimed to modernize the Ottoman Empire in response to internal challenges and external pressures. Key reforms included legal changes, educational improvements, and the establishment of a more centralized government to enhance efficiency and reduce corruption.
During this period, the Noble Edict of 1839 and the Imperial Rescript of 1856 were significant documents that promoted equality among all subjects, regardless of religion. These reforms sought to strengthen the empire and prevent further territorial losses, ultimately laying the groundwork for modernization in the region.
