Oriskany Battle
The Battle of Oriskany took place on August 6, 1777, during the American Revolutionary War. It was fought near Oriskany, New York, between American forces and British troops, including their Native American allies. The battle was part of a larger campaign to control the Mohawk Valley and was significant for its fierce hand-to-hand combat.
Although the Americans, led by Nicholas Herkimer, were ultimately forced to retreat, they inflicted heavy casualties on the British and their allies. The battle demonstrated the determination of the American forces and helped to rally support for the revolutionary cause, despite the tactical setback.
