Battle of Oriskany
The Battle of Oriskany took place on August 6, 1777, during the American Revolutionary War. It was fought near Oriskany, New York, between American forces and British troops, including their Native American allies. The battle was part of the larger campaign to control the Mohawk Valley and prevent British forces from advancing into New York.
American forces, led by Nicholas Herkimer, were ambushed while marching to relieve the besieged fort at Fort Stanwix.
