Order of Christ
The "Order of Christ" is a Roman Catholic religious order founded in 1319 by King Dinis of Portugal. It was established to promote the Christian faith and support the Portuguese monarchy in its efforts to expand overseas, particularly during the Age of Discovery. The order is known for its distinctive red cross and has historically been associated with maritime exploration.
Members of the Order of Christ took vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, similar to other religious orders. The order played a significant role in the colonization of Africa and Brazil, and it was instrumental in the spread of Christianity in these regions. Today, the Order of Christ continues to exist, focusing on spiritual and charitable activities.
