Oral Candidiasis
Oral candidiasis, commonly known as thrush, is a fungal infection caused by the overgrowth of the Candida species, particularly Candida albicans. It typically appears as white patches on the tongue, inner cheeks, and sometimes the throat. This condition can occur in anyone but is more common in individuals with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS or diabetes.
Symptoms of oral candidiasis may include soreness, difficulty swallowing, and a cottony feeling in the mouth. Treatment usually involves antifungal medications, which can be prescribed in topical or oral forms. Maintaining good oral hygiene and managing underlying health conditions can help prevent its recurrence.
