Operation U-Go
Operation U-Go was a military campaign launched by the Japanese Imperial Army in April 1944 during World War II. The operation aimed to capture the Indian state of Assam and cut off the supply lines of the Allied Forces in the region. It involved a large-scale offensive against the British Indian Army and was intended to secure a strategic advantage in Southeast Asia.
Despite initial successes, Operation U-Go faced significant challenges, including difficult terrain and strong resistance from the Allies. The operation ultimately failed to achieve its objectives, leading to heavy casualties for the Japanese forces and marking a turning point in the war in the Pacific theater.
