Operation Oboe I
"Operation Oboe I" was a military campaign conducted by Allied forces during World War II, specifically targeting the Japanese-held island of Borneo. Launched in June 1945, the operation aimed to secure the island to disrupt Japanese supply lines and establish a base for further operations in the region.
The operation involved troops from Australia and British Commonwealth forces, who faced resistance from Japanese defenders. Successful landings at Balikpapan allowed the Allies to capture key strategic locations, ultimately contributing to the broader efforts to defeat Japan in the Pacific theater.
