Operation Jubilee
"Operation Jubilee" was the code name for the Dieppe Raid, a significant military operation during World War II. It took place on August 19, 1942, when Allied forces, primarily composed of Canadian troops, launched an assault on the German-occupied port of Dieppe in France. The objective was to gather intelligence, test German defenses, and boost morale among the Allies.
The operation faced numerous challenges, including poor planning and unexpected German resistance. As a result, the raid ended in heavy casualties, with thousands of Allied soldiers killed, wounded, or captured. Despite its failure, Operation Jubilee provided valuable lessons for future amphibious assaults, including the later successful D-Day invasion.
