Operation Goodwood
Operation Goodwood was a major British offensive during World War II, launched on July 18, 1944, as part of the Battle of Normandy. The operation aimed to capture the city of Caen and break through the German defenses in the area. It involved a large-scale armored assault, primarily using tanks from the British Army.
The offensive faced strong resistance from German forces, leading to heavy casualties on both sides. Despite initial advances, the operation ultimately fell short of its objectives, resulting in a stalemate. Operation Goodwood highlighted the challenges of armored warfare in difficult terrain and the complexities of coordinating large military operations.
