Oodgeroo Noonuccal
Oodgeroo Noonuccal, born as Kath Walker in 1920, was an influential Australian poet, political activist, and artist. She was a member of the Noonuccal people, an Indigenous group from Stradbroke Island in Queensland. Oodgeroo is best known for her poetry that highlights the struggles and rights of Aboriginal Australians, making her a prominent voice in the Aboriginal rights movement.
In 1964, she became the first Aboriginal Australian to publish a book of poetry, titled "We Are Going." Oodgeroo's work often reflects her deep connection to the land and her people's culture. She was also involved in various social justice initiatives, advocating for Indigenous rights and recognition throughout her life.
