Omar Khadr
Omar Khadr is a Canadian citizen born on September 19, 1986, in Toronto, Ontario. He is known for being captured by U.S. forces in Afghanistan in 2002 when he was just 15 years old. Khadr was accused of throwing a grenade that killed a U.S. soldier during a firefight. He was held at Guantanamo Bay detention camp for several years, where he faced legal battles regarding his treatment and the charges against him.
In 2010, Khadr pleaded guilty to five charges, including murder, as part of a plea deal. He was sentenced to 40 years but was transferred to Canada in 2012 to serve the remainder of his sentence. His case has sparked significant debate about child soldiers, human rights, and the legal treatment of detainees in the context of the War on Terror.
