Ol Doinyo Lengai
Ol Doinyo Lengai is an active stratovolcano located in northern Tanzania, near the eastern shore of Lake Natron. It is known for its unique carbonatite lava, which is much cooler than typical basaltic lava, allowing it to flow more easily. The volcano stands at about 2,962 meters (9,721 feet) and is part of the East African Rift system.
The name "Ol Doinyo Lengai" translates to "Mountain of God" in the Maasai language. It is considered sacred by the Maasai people, who have lived in the region for centuries. The volcano's eruptions are relatively infrequent but can produce spectacular lava fountains and flows, attracting scientists and tourists alike.
