Ohio-class Submarines
The Ohio-class submarines are a class of nuclear-powered submarines used by the United States Navy. They were designed primarily for strategic deterrence and can carry up to 24 Trident II (D5) ballistic missiles, which are capable of delivering nuclear warheads. The class includes both ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) and guided missile submarines (SSGNs), with the latter equipped for special operations and land-attack missions.
Commissioned in the late 1980s, the Ohio-class submarines are known for their stealth and advanced technology. Each submarine is approximately 560 feet long and can operate at depths greater than 800 feet. They play a crucial role in the U.S. nuclear triad, ensuring a credible deterrent against potential threats.
