Ohio-class
The Ohio-class is a class of nuclear-powered submarines used by the United States Navy. Designed for strategic deterrence, these submarines can carry up to 24 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), specifically the Trident II. The Ohio-class submarines are known for their stealth capabilities and long endurance, allowing them to operate undetected for extended periods.
In addition to their primary role as missile submarines, some Ohio-class vessels have been converted for special operations. These converted submarines, known as Ohio-class guided missile submarines, can launch cruise missiles, providing versatility in military operations. The Ohio-class remains a key component of the U.S. nuclear triad.
