Ohio Common Pleas Court
The Ohio Common Pleas Court is a state trial court that handles a variety of cases, including civil, criminal, and family law matters. It serves as the general jurisdiction court in each of Ohio's 88 counties, meaning it can hear almost any type of case that is not specifically assigned to another court.
Each Common Pleas Court is divided into different divisions, such as civil, criminal, and probate, allowing for specialized handling of cases. Judges in these courts are elected and serve six-year terms, ensuring that the court remains accountable to the public it serves.
