Ocular Albinism
Ocular Albinism is a genetic condition that primarily affects the eyes, leading to reduced pigmentation in the iris and retina. This lack of melanin can result in vision problems, such as reduced visual acuity, sensitivity to light, and difficulty with depth perception. It is most commonly inherited in an X-linked manner, meaning it predominantly affects males.
Individuals with Ocular Albinism may also experience nystagmus, which is an involuntary eye movement. While there is no cure for this condition, vision therapy and the use of corrective lenses can help manage some of the associated visual challenges. Regular eye examinations are important for monitoring eye health.
