Occupation of Japan
The Occupation of Japan refers to the period after World War II when Allied forces, led by the United States, took control of Japan from 1945 to 1952. The primary goal was to demilitarize and democratize the country, ensuring that Japan would not pose a threat in the future. During this time, significant political, social, and economic reforms were implemented.
General Douglas MacArthur was appointed as the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers and oversaw the occupation. Key changes included the drafting of a new constitution, land reforms, and the promotion of civil rights. The occupation officially ended with the signing of the Treaty of San Francisco in 1951.
