Occipitalis Muscle
The Occipitalis Muscle is a small, flat muscle located at the back of the head. It is part of the larger group of muscles known as the epicranius, which covers the top and back of the skull. The primary function of the occipitalis is to pull the scalp backward, contributing to facial expressions and movements.
This muscle originates from the occipital bone and connects to the galea aponeurotica, a fibrous tissue that spans the top of the skull. The occipitalis works in conjunction with the frontalis muscle, which is located at the front of the head, allowing for coordinated movements of the scalp and forehead.
