Oaxacan Languages
Oaxacan languages are a group of indigenous languages spoken primarily in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. This region is home to a rich linguistic diversity, with around 16 different language families, including Zapotec and Mixtec, which are the most widely spoken. These languages are integral to the cultural identity of the local communities.
Many Oaxacan languages are at risk of extinction due to factors like urbanization and the dominance of Spanish. Efforts are being made to preserve these languages through education and community initiatives, highlighting their importance in maintaining the cultural heritage of the Oaxacan people.
