Nystatin
Nystatin is an antifungal medication primarily used to treat infections caused by fungi, particularly those in the Candida family. It works by binding to the fungal cell membrane, causing it to become permeable and leading to cell death. Nystatin is commonly prescribed for oral thrush and skin infections.
This medication is available in various forms, including oral suspensions, tablets, and topical creams. It is generally well-tolerated, with few side effects, but may cause mild gastrointestinal upset or skin irritation in some individuals. Nystatin is not effective against bacterial or viral infections.
