Nyssa aquatica
Nyssa aquatica, commonly known as the water tupelo, is a deciduous tree native to the southeastern United States. It typically grows in wetland areas, such as swamps and floodplains, and can reach heights of 60 to 100 feet. The tree features dark green, glossy leaves and produces small, round fruits that are enjoyed by various wildlife.
This species plays a vital role in its ecosystem by providing habitat and food for birds and other animals. Nyssa aquatica is also valued for its wood, which is used in furniture and flooring, and for its ability to help stabilize soil in wetland areas.
