Nullarbor Plain
The Nullarbor Plain is a vast, flat expanse located in southern Australia, stretching over 1,100 kilometers (about 684 miles) from east to west. It is known for its unique limestone features and sparse vegetation, primarily consisting of saltbush and low shrubs. The region is largely arid, receiving very little rainfall, which contributes to its distinctive landscape.
This plain is part of the larger Nullarbor region, which includes the Nullarbor National Park. The area is significant for its rich fossil deposits and is home to various wildlife, including kangaroos and emus. The Eyre Highway runs across the plain, providing access for travelers exploring this remote part of Australia.
