Nosema Ceranae
Nosema ceranae is a microsporidian parasite that primarily infects honeybees, particularly the Apis cerana species. It affects the digestive system of bees, leading to a condition known as nosemosis. Infected bees may exhibit symptoms such as reduced lifespan, poor foraging ability, and weakened immune responses, which can ultimately impact the health of the entire colony.
This parasite is transmitted through spores found in contaminated food and feces. Nosema ceranae has gained attention due to its association with colony collapse disorder, a phenomenon that has significantly affected Apis mellifera, the common honeybee. Effective management practices are essential to mitigate its impact on bee populations.
