Northern Kosovo
Northern Kosovo is a region located in the northern part of the country of Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008. This area is predominantly inhabited by Serbs, and it has been a focal point of ethnic tensions and political disputes since the Kosovo War in the late 1990s.
The region includes several municipalities, such as Mitrovica, which is divided by the Ibar River into a predominantly Serbian north and an Albanian south. Northern Kosovo has a unique administrative status and is often viewed as a flashpoint for broader regional issues involving Serbia and Kosovo.
