Northern Gateway
The Northern Gateway was a proposed oil pipeline project in Canada, designed to transport crude oil from Alberta to the Pacific coast of British Columbia. The project aimed to connect the oil sands in Alberta with international markets, facilitating the export of oil to Asia and other regions.
The project faced significant opposition from environmental groups, Indigenous communities, and some local residents due to concerns about potential spills and the impact on ecosystems. In 2016, the Canadian government announced that it would not proceed with the Northern Gateway project, citing the need for better environmental assessments and consultations with affected communities.
