North American Bison Habitat
The North American bison primarily inhabit grasslands, prairies, and open plains. These ecosystems provide the vast, flat areas necessary for grazing on grasses and other vegetation. Bison are well-adapted to these habitats, which support their large size and social behavior.
In addition to grasslands, bison can also be found in mixed forests and shrublands, especially in regions where these areas transition into open spaces. They require access to water sources, such as rivers and lakes, to stay hydrated. Conservation efforts aim to protect and restore these habitats to support bison populations.
