Norfolk and Western Railway
The Norfolk and Western Railway (N&W) was a major American railroad that operated primarily in the eastern United States. Founded in 1838, it played a crucial role in transporting coal, agricultural products, and manufactured goods. The railway was known for its efficient service and extensive network, connecting Virginia, West Virginia, and parts of Ohio and Kentucky.
In 1982, the Norfolk and Western Railway merged with the Southern Railway to form the Norfolk Southern Railway, which continues to operate today. The legacy of the N&W is evident in its contributions to the development of the rail industry and its impact on regional economies.
