Non-Seminomatous Germ Cell Tumors
Non-Seminomatous Germ Cell Tumors (NSGCTs) are a type of testicular cancer that arise from germ cells, which are the cells responsible for producing sperm. These tumors are typically aggressive and can be classified into several subtypes, including embryonal carcinoma, yolk sac tumor, choriocarcinoma, and teratoma. NSGCTs often occur in younger males, usually between the ages of 15 and 35.
Diagnosis of NSGCTs usually involves imaging tests, blood tests for tumor markers, and a biopsy. Treatment often includes surgery to remove the affected testicle, followed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy if the cancer has spread. Early detection and treatment are crucial for improving outcomes.
