Niyyah
Niyyah is an Arabic term that means intention. In Islamic practice, it refers to the inner resolve or purpose behind performing an act of worship, such as Salah (prayer) or Sawm (fasting). Niyyah is essential because it distinguishes acts of worship from ordinary actions, ensuring that they are performed sincerely for the sake of Allah.
The concept of Niyyah emphasizes the importance of having a clear and focused intention before engaging in any religious duty. It is often said that actions are judged by intentions, highlighting that the spiritual value of an act depends on the sincerity behind it.
