Niyamgiri
Niyamgiri is a mountain range located in the eastern part of India, primarily in the state of Odisha. It is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to various flora and fauna, including several endangered species. The area is also significant for the indigenous Dongria Kondh tribe, who consider the mountains sacred and rely on them for their livelihood.
The region gained international attention due to conflicts over mining activities, particularly by the Vedanta Resources company, which sought to extract bauxite from the area. This led to widespread protests and legal battles, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and indigenous rights in the face of industrial development.
