Nisga'a
The Nisga'a are an Indigenous people from the northwestern region of British Columbia, Canada. They belong to the Tsimshian language family and have a rich cultural heritage that includes traditional practices, art, and storytelling. The Nisga'a Nation is known for its strong connection to the land and its history, which is reflected in their governance and community life.
In 1998, the Nisga'a signed the Nisga'a Treaty, which was the first modern treaty in British Columbia. This agreement granted them self-governance, land rights, and financial compensation, allowing the Nisga'a to manage their resources and preserve their culture. The treaty has played a significant role in the community's development and autonomy.
