Nikolaos Mantzaros
Nikolaos Mantzaros was a prominent Greek composer born in 1795 on the island of Corfu. He is best known for his contributions to the development of Greek music, particularly in the realm of opera and choral works. Mantzaros studied in Italy, where he was influenced by the classical music traditions of the time.
One of his most significant achievements is the composition of the Greek national anthem, titled “Hymn to Liberty” (Hymn to Liberty). This anthem, with lyrics by Dionysios Solomos, has become a symbol of Greek identity and pride. Mantzaros passed away in 1872, leaving a lasting legacy in Greek music.
