Nickel Academy
Nickel Academy is a fictional reform school featured in the novel "The Nickel Boys" by Colson Whitehead. Set in the 1960s, it is based on the real-life Dozier School for Boys in Florida. The academy is known for its harsh treatment of students, who are subjected to physical and emotional abuse.
The story follows two boys, Elwood Curtis and Turner, as they navigate the challenges of life at Nickel Academy. Despite the oppressive environment, Elwood remains hopeful and inspired by the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr., while Turner adopts a more cynical outlook on their situation.
