Nguzo Saba
Nguzo Saba, meaning "Seven Principles" in Swahili, is a set of values that guide the celebration of Kwanzaa, an African American cultural holiday. Established by Maulana Karenga in 1966, these principles emphasize community, family, and cultural heritage. Each day of Kwanzaa, which runs from December 26 to January 1, focuses on one of the seven principles: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith).
The Nguzo Saba serves as a framework for fostering a sense of identity and purpose within the African American community. By reflecting on these principles, individuals are encouraged to strengthen their bonds with family and community, promote economic cooperation, and celebrate
