Ujamaa
Ujamaa is a Swahili term meaning "familyhood" or "togetherness." It was a key principle in Julius Nyerere's vision for Tanzania during the 1960s and 1970s. Ujamaa emphasized collective agriculture and communal living, aiming to promote social equality and economic self-reliance. Villages were organized to work together, sharing resources and labor to improve their living conditions.
The Ujamaa policy sought to reduce poverty and foster a sense of community among citizens. It encouraged people to collaborate in farming and other economic activities, believing that unity would lead to greater prosperity. While it had mixed results, Ujamaa remains an important part of Tanzania's history.
