New START treaty
The New START treaty is a nuclear arms reduction agreement between the United States and Russia, signed in 2010. It aims to limit the number of deployed strategic nuclear warheads and delivery systems, promoting transparency and stability in nuclear arsenals. The treaty allows for on-site inspections and data exchanges to ensure compliance.
Under the New START treaty, both countries are allowed to have a maximum of 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear warheads and 700 deployed delivery vehicles, such as intercontinental ballistic missiles and bombers. The treaty is a key element in efforts to reduce the risk of nuclear conflict and enhance global security.
