Neural Tissue
Neural tissue is a specialized type of tissue that makes up the nervous system. It consists primarily of two main cell types: neurons and glial cells. Neurons are responsible for transmitting electrical signals throughout the body, allowing for communication between different parts of the nervous system. Glial cells support and protect neurons, playing essential roles in maintaining homeostasis and providing structural support.
This tissue is found in the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. Neural tissue is crucial for processing sensory information, coordinating responses, and controlling bodily functions. Its complex structure enables rapid communication, making it vital for all bodily activities, from reflexes to higher cognitive functions.
