Nerve Signals
Nerve signals, also known as action potentials, are electrical impulses that travel along neurons to communicate information throughout the body. These signals are generated when a neuron receives a stimulus, causing a rapid change in its electrical charge. This process allows the signal to move quickly along the nerve fiber.
Once the nerve signal reaches the end of a neuron, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that transmit the signal to the next neuron or target cell. This communication is essential for various functions, including muscle movement, sensory perception, and reflex actions.
