Nerve Impulses
Nerve impulses are electrical signals that travel along the neurons in the nervous system. These impulses are generated when a neuron is stimulated, causing a rapid change in electrical charge across its membrane. This process, known as action potential, allows the signal to move quickly from one part of the body to another, enabling communication between different cells.
When a nerve impulse reaches the end of a neuron, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that transmit the signal to the next neuron or target cell. This process is essential for various functions, including muscle movement, reflexes, and sensory perception.
