Negro History Week
Negro History Week was established in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson to promote the study and celebration of African American history and culture. It aimed to highlight the contributions of African Americans to the United States and to encourage schools and communities to recognize their achievements.
In 1976, the week was expanded to a month, becoming Black History Month, celebrated every February. This observance serves as a time to reflect on the struggles and accomplishments of African Americans throughout history, fostering a greater understanding of their impact on society and promoting awareness of ongoing issues related to race and equality.
