National Marine Sanctuaries
National Marine Sanctuaries are protected areas in the ocean and Great Lakes that conserve marine ecosystems and cultural resources. Established by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), these sanctuaries aim to safeguard biodiversity, promote research, and support sustainable use of marine resources.
There are currently 15 National Marine Sanctuaries across the United States, each with unique habitats and species. They provide opportunities for activities like diving, fishing, and boating, while also serving as vital sites for education and conservation efforts to protect marine life and ecosystems.
