National Indian Brotherhood
The National Indian Brotherhood (NIB) was established in 1968 in Canada to represent the interests of Indigenous peoples. It aimed to address issues such as land rights, self-governance, and social justice. The organization played a crucial role in advocating for Indigenous rights and promoting unity among various Indigenous groups.
In 1982, the NIB was renamed the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), reflecting its broader mandate to represent First Nations across Canada. The AFN continues to work on issues affecting Indigenous communities, including education, health, and economic development, while striving to enhance the political voice of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
