National American Woman Suffrage Association
The National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) was formed in 1890 through the merger of two organizations: the National Woman Suffrage Association and the American Woman Suffrage Association. Its primary goal was to secure voting rights for women across the United States. NAWSA played a crucial role in advocating for women's suffrage through campaigns, rallies, and lobbying efforts.
Under the leadership of figures like Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, NAWSA worked to unite various women's rights groups. The organization emphasized a state-by-state approach to gaining suffrage, which eventually contributed to the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, granting women the right to vote.
