Nasal Anatomy
The nasal anatomy consists of several key structures that facilitate breathing and olfaction. The nose is divided into two nostrils, leading to the nasal cavity, which is lined with mucous membranes. These membranes help filter, warm, and humidify the air we breathe. The nasal cavity also contains turbinates, which are bony structures that increase surface area and enhance airflow.
Additionally, the sinuses are air-filled spaces located within the skull that connect to the nasal cavity. They help reduce the weight of the skull and contribute to voice resonance. The olfactory bulb is situated at the top of the nasal cavity and is responsible for the sense of smell, detecting airborne chemicals as they enter the nose.
