Nara deer
The Nara deer, also known as sika deer, are a species native to East Asia, particularly found in Nara Park in Japan. These deer are known for their distinctive spotted coats, which help them blend into their forested habitats. They are relatively small, with males typically larger than females, and they have antlers that they shed annually.
In Nara Park, the deer roam freely and are accustomed to human interaction. They are considered a symbol of the city and are protected as a national treasure. Visitors often feed them special crackers sold in the park, making them a popular attraction for tourists.
